Indoor Air Quality
Commercial Air Purifier Services in Salt Lake City, UT by One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning
Indoor air quality can have a huge impact on the productiveness, health, and quality of life of both you and your employees. There are millions upon millions of microscopic contaminants floating around in the air inside your building. These contaminants include germs, mold spores, dust, pollen, and insect dander, to name a few. Some are lung irritants and allergens, which can provoke quite nasty allergy attacks in those susceptible to them. Others are infectious agents, capable of causing cold and flu-like symptoms if allowed to infect a person. If you want to keep yourself and your employees happy and healthy, you’re going to need to address these contaminants. The best way to do that is with a commercial air purifier. Types of Commercial Air Purifiers
There are many different types of commercial air purifiers to choose from. Though they are all designed to improve your indoor air quality, each does so in a different way. Have a look at a few of the most common commercial air purifier types:
- Air Filters: Air filters are the simplest type of air purifier, composed of a fiber mesh over a metal or plastic frame. Though simple, these filters are quite effective at capturing airborne particles while allowing the air itself to flow through them unimpeded. There are different ratings for these filters, called MERV (Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value). The higher the MERV, the smaller particles the filter will be able to capture.
- Ionization Filters: Also called electronic filters, ionization filters are air purifiers that create electric fields around themselves during operation. When a contaminant passes into this field, it is given either a positive or a negative charge. It is then attracted to a collector plate inside the purifier with the opposite charge. The collector plates can then be removed and cleaned to get rid of the contaminant.
- UV Germicidal Lights: Germicidal lights take advantage of the fact that most germs are extremely vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation. If exposed to too much ultraviolet light, like that which comes from the sun, these germs will either die or become too damaged to multiply. A germicidal light is basically a lightbulb that gives off ultraviolet light. As the germs pass through this light, they are sterilized or killed. This reduces the number of infectious agents in your air, and thus the likelihood of you getting sick.
