It also means you’re a careful consumer and want to make sure you receive the best possible new system—an air conditioner that will last for many years, operate at high energy efficiency, and experience few malfunctions.

The answer to the question is … well, there’s no simple answer. Homes have different cooling requirements, and finding the right AC to deliver a customer’s needs is more complex than recommending Brand X over Brand Z.

Why Is There Ice on My AC?

ice-on-ACAlthough air conditioning systems are ubiquitous in Salt Lake City, most people know very little about how these cooling units actually run. For example, a homeowner may notice ice or a layer of frost developing along the indoor evaporator coils of a central air conditioner and not think that’s a big deal. It may even seem natural. An air conditioner creates cold air, so why not a little ice?

But ice shouldn’t be appearing on an AC! Air conditioners don’t cool down the air they send into a home using ice, and ice isn’t a byproduct of the cooling process.
