The heating power is higher than most other heating systems, and gas furnaces spread warmth around a house quickly. Because natural gas costs less than electricity, a gas furnace helps cut down on utility bills over winter.

But gas furnaces sometimes give people a fright because of worries that they might become dangerous, either from carbon monoxide leaks or combustion hazards.
